Introduction:
The development of an Enterprise Mobility-Plan is traditionally directed to large and industrial enterprises to support sustainable mobility. The economic and spatial structure of the county is characterised by a growing spread of economic activity, most of which link to the harbour and coastline. Consequently, there is a major impact as to how open space and the mobility of the region are managed. Through the Target project a mobility-plan for the harbour-site and the associated areas of SME’s will be developed.
Within this project, the harbour-area between Brugge and Zeebrugge will be selected as the test area in order to prepare an additional integrated mobility-plan.
ACTIVITY UPDATES:-
Feasability study travel planning for Port of Zeebrugge, March 2004
With the aid of a consultant the feasibility study for a work travel plan at the port commenced. Surveys are taking place with various companies in the port area who expressed an interest in the scheme. Results are expected in January 2005.
Work travel planning in extensive deep sea ports with a very dispersed labourforce, working in various shifts throughout the 24 hour day has proved to be a real challenge. The results of what is feasible under such circumstances and at what cost, will be a valuable input for port development in similar environments in France, the Netherlands, UK and other European countries.
