This Work Area encourages cross-sectoral partnership approaches to reduce car travel to urban and rural leisure attractions.

Across the North Sea Region leisure travel shows a major increase in car usage.  Target 2 is developing a range of innovative measures that provide information, service and transport solutions for these leisure trips.  To do this, the Transport and Leisure Work Area encourage s cross-sectional partnership approaches to reduce car travel to a range of urban and rural visitor attractions. 

Project activities will:

  • Develop modern electronic technologies (Smart Card)
  • Provide incentives to encourage the use of public transport
  • Improve information and logistics
  • Integrate public transport, venue and accomodation packages
  • Implement congestion and parking prevention measures
  • Create a range of promotional material
  • Encourage the use of bicycles and other forms of green tourism
