Introduction
Considering the growing tourism in the city of Bruges, there is a need for an integrated approach in order to guarantee the quality of the life of the inhabitants in Bruges, as well as to reinforce the tourist attractiveness of the inner city. Bearing in mind the medieval spatial structure, there is no possibility to reduce the impact of growing tourism by reorganising the spatial mapping of the city, so a mobility plan to provide more efficient mobility is required.
ACTIVITY UPDATES:-
Brugge City Focus - April - October 2004 The car park facilities of the historical street pattern in the inner city are limited in space and capacity, in relation to to the increase of car use over the last 30 years. Within the implementation of the mobility plan for the City of Bruges, a new park policy has been introduced which links to the city's new sustainable transport alternatives. Visitors and citizens alike will be encouraged to use these alternatives for a healthier city, being promoted by the 'Bruges breaths' campaign.
Six long-term parks will be kept out of the inner city in favour of citizens. These park and ride zones are equipped with ecological transport modes - bus and bikes, to be used as ongoing transport options. The construction of the P&R Steenbrugge is now complete which has 20 of the special bike safe bike sheds.

Free bus service - July 2003
To reduce the number of cars in the centre of the city, Strad Brugge have introduced a new ticket that encourages car drivers to park at the rail/bus station outside the city centre. Through the parking system they gain a 'parking ticket', which is shown to the bus driver. Then board and enjoy a free bus-ride to the city centre and back.
A new ticketing point at the Concert Hall.
