Introduction
"Botanika" is an innovative edutainment centre which has developed a range of bio-diversity regions in the old Bremen Rhododendron Park. The centre expects over 250,000 visitors in its first year.  To reduce the impact of car traffic, Target 2 will assist in developing mobility management concepts to increase public transport for visitor trips.  This will include: a guidance information system, a combined public transport/ entrance ticket and awareness raising campaigns.

The public owned RhoPark society (the recently founded management company for the Botanika) is the sub-partner of the Target 2 project.  This project will show how to minimise the environment impacts of leisure and tourism development.

ACTIVITY UPDATES:-

Botanika opens to the public, 7th June 2003.
More than 250,000 visitors are expected to see the biodiversity 'edutainment' at the existing area of the Rhododendron Park, which already attracts 400,000 visitors annually. The Bremen Target project has been involved with Botanika since its inception, assisting with mobility management measures that will help to reduce the impact of the increasing visitor numbers.

Visitors are encouraged to use public transport, cycle or walk.  As a fist step, a pedestrian guidance system between the tram stops of Line No 4 and the entrance has been heavily promoted as the gateway to Botanika.  And on Sundays, the frequency of bus line No 20 has been increased.

Real time information at the centre gives up-to-date public transport information and includes the time needed to walk to the entrance gates and nearest bus stops.
