Introduction
The Lundby District is a mobility management test-site in Göteborg, where partnerships are developed to test and promote sustainable transport solutions. In Target 2, the Lundby Mobility Centre will be established as a base to progress this work in the area.

This project will develop and promote Lundby as a district with a high profile for cycling. The key aims were to :-

The main activity will be to develop a cycle pool with company bicycles in the area around the Mobility Centre.  This will be supported by various promotional activities in conjuction with target groups represented in households and workplaces. Evidence suggests that a long term view, has a higher success rate when influencing attitudinal and behavioural change towards more sustainable travel patterns.

Information Leaflets:-
The key focus was on providing information to target groups. In 2004 40% of households (6000), received cycle information booklets. One highlighted connections with cycling, safety, the enviroment, the economy and health issues. The other cycle leaflet showed four planned cycle routes, taking in places of, cultural,  enviromental and historic interest. Following distribution, six guided tours were arranged using special tour guides.

Many of these initiatives are a good example of Trans-national  co-operation when developing ideas. Cycle rewards and guided tours for cycle where implemented in Goteborg, Odense and Yorkshire and Humberside, following successin Odense. Odense also influenced the setting up of a cycle counter and pumps at a focal point in Lundby.

Test Bikers, October 2004
Ten inveterate car drivers employed by the District Administration of Lundby have been selected as test bikers.  For seven months, starting in April 2004, they have left their cars at home and agreed to cycle to work instead.

The test bikers received a bicycle, helmet, trip computer, a cycle cape and a '100 card' for use on public transport.

Every two months the test bikers are monitored for the effects on their health as a result of choosing this alternative form of transport.  In addition the environmental, economic and time aspects have also been monitored.

Results to date indicate that the majority of the participants say 'cycling has been simpler than expected'.  All pareticipants reported feeling fitter, better general health and a marked reduction in excess fat.
