Odense cycle initiative visit is a great success. Mary Farrer, Calderdale MBC'I thought the trip to Odense was probably the single greatest learning experience I have had in my 3 years in promoting sustainable transport. I set out to discover examples of best practice, and I was overwhelmed with good examples. It inspired me and gave me an injection of hope for the future of Britain just at a time when I was full of frustration and despair over our transportation system! I wish every politician, indeed every resident of Britain could see what I saw, surely our habits would change then.
Some examples of cyclist priority at junctions would work well in areas which already have a high number of cycling (Bristol!!)
I would like to see the count down signals at junctions with advanced stop lines, reallocation of road space and no restrictions for cyclists on one way streets implemented immediately, nationally. How do we do this? In Calderdale we have just applied for a large bid, included in the bid were 2 unique types of cycle storage (found in Odense!). My colleagues and I would like to try out the Brass Key locking system here in Calderdale.
